Will it fit / 100-inch above a fireplace

Will a 100-inch TV fit above a fireplace?
Without its stand, a 100-inch TV here measures 87.75 to 87.8 in wide and 50.1 to 50.56 in tall, according to the makers' spec pages. A clear patch of wall at least 88 x 51 in above the mantel takes any of the 4; the narrowest, the Sony K100XR30M2, needs 87.75 x 50.56 in.
Every 100-inch TV with a published body size
These are the dimensions "without stand" that each maker prints — the box that hangs on the wall. They are listed narrowest first. Sony and Samsung publish a full width, height and depth for their 100-inch sets on the pages read for this site; the other 3 100-inch models listed on VESA Fit are left out here: LG 100MRGB95BU has a pattern and weight on record but no body size, and LG 100QNED84BU, LG 100QNED85AU have a body size (on each model page) but no single with-stand size, so the fireplace and cabinet pages compare the same sets.
| Model | Width | Height | Depth | Weight | VESA (mm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sony K100XR30M2 | 87.75 in | 50.56 in | 2.94 in | 117 lb | 600 x 400 |
| Samsung QN100QN80HFXZA | 87.79 in | 50.13 in | 2.26 in | 129.8 lb | 600 x 400 |
| Samsung MRN100R85HFXZA | 87.8 in | 50.2 in | 2.3 in | 132.9 lb | 600 x 400 |

Width and height on the wall
The spread between the narrowest and widest 100-inch body is 0.05 in: the Sony K100XR30M2 at 87.75 in against the Samsung MRN100R85HFXZA at 87.8 in. A geometric 100-inch 16:9 picture is 87.2 x 49 in, and the bodies differ from it by their frames and by how each maker rounds its class size. If a chimney breast or built-in shelving limits the width, measure between the obstructions and compare with the width column, not with the screen size.
Height matters as much above a mantel, because the TV's bottom edge has to clear the shelf and anything that stands on it. The tallest 100-inch body here is 50.56 in and the shortest 50.1 in. Add the gap you want between mantel and TV to that figure to get the wall height you need below the ceiling or crown moulding. If the wall is shorter than about 50.1 in, a 98-inch set (bodies up to 49.8 in tall) is the next size down.
What 100 inches means over a mantel
A 100-inch set is a whole-wall TV: up to 87.8 in wide and 50.56 in tall, it covers more wall than many fireplaces' chimney breasts offer, and at up to 132.9 lb the mount, its anchors and the lift above the hearth are professional-install territory. Measure the whole wall, not just the space above the mantel.
How far it stands off the wall
The thinnest body at this size is the Samsung QN100QN80HFXZA at 2.26 in deep; the thickest is the Sony K100XR30M2 at 2.94 in. On a wall mount the TV sits that far out plus the mount's own profile, which the mount maker prints on its box — a fixed or "low-profile" plate adds the least, a tilting or full-motion arm the most. Over a mantel, a tilting mount is the usual way to angle a high screen back toward the seats.
Weight on the chimney wall
Without the stand these sets weigh 117 to 132.9 lb, with a median of 125.5 lb; the heaviest is the Samsung MRN100R85HFXZA. A mount's rating has to cover the TV's weight, and a full-motion arm needs more margin than a fixed plate because the load sits further from the wall. Chimney breasts are often brick or stone; fix the mount with the masonry anchors its maker supplies for that wall, and keep drill holes away from the flue.
Neighbouring sizes
One size down, the 98-inch bodies here are 85.3–86.4 in wide (98-inch above a fireplace). From a seat 13 ft 7 in away a 100-inch screen fills the SMPTE 30° view; mounting it high doesn't change that distance, but the screen's centre ends up above eye level, so measure from where you sit.
