TV size chart

Screen width and height are 16:9 geometry from the diagonal; distances are where the screen fills the SMPTE 30° and THX 40° views; the pattern column is the most common VESA pattern among current models of that size.

Reading the chart

Screen size is measured on the diagonal, so a 65-inch TV is not 65 inches wide — it is about 56.7 inches. Each step up the chart adds less width than the diagonal suggests, and picture area grows with the square of the diagonal: a 75-inch screen has 86% more picture than a 55-inch, not 36% more. That is why a jump of one or two sizes feels bigger in the room than on paper.

The VESA column is a guide only. At most sizes more than one pattern is in use — the size pages list every model — so look up the exact model before buying a mount. If you know your seating distance instead of a size, start from the distance chart.
