What that means when you shop

Without a published pattern, the mount choice starts with measuring the TV (below). At 71.2 lb it is a heavy set: plan a two-person lift, fix the mount into at least two studs or into masonry, and pick a mount whose rating leaves clear margin.

Closest in weight among other brands' 77-inch TVs: Samsung OLED S90H (71.4 lb, 400 x 300 mm); Samsung OLED S95H (69.9 lb, 400 x 400 mm); LG OLED evo G6 (72.8 lb, 300 x 300 mm).

Sony's other 77-inch models here — BRAVIA 6 OLED (400 x 300 mm, 55.3 lb), BRAVIA XR A95L (Not published, 77.6 lb), BRAVIA XR8B (300 x 300 mm, 71.2 lb) — use a mix of patterns, so check the exact model before buying a mount.

Among Sony's 46 models here, this is one of the few without a published pattern. It is a 2024 model that Sony still lists; older lines are often discounted, and their mount specs don't change.

How to find the pattern on this TV yourself

  1. Lay the TV face down on a soft, flat surface, or measure it while it stands.
  2. Find the four threaded inserts on the back panel.
  3. Measure centre to centre between the two top holes in millimetres: that is the first number. Then top to bottom on one side: the second.
  4. Compare with standard patterns (100 x 100, 200 x 200, 200 x 300, 300 x 200, 400 x 200, 300 x 300, 400 x 300, 400 x 400…). A reading within a few millimetres of one of them is that pattern.
  5. Note the screw thread from the manual, or test-fit an M6 then M8 screw by hand — never force a screw.

The full walkthrough with photos-free diagrams is in the guide to finding your VESA pattern.

Where to sit

A 77-inch 16:9 screen is 67.1 in wide and 37.8 in tall. It fills the SMPTE 30° view from 10 ft 5 in and THX's 40° cinema view from 7 ft 8 in. At this size 4K looks sharper than 1080p only from 10 ft or closer; beyond that, 20/20 eyes cannot tell the two apart. The 77-inch size page has the full table and every model at this size.
