Mount checklist for the 55A300W

Body size: 48.46 x 28.23 x 1.1 in

TCL lists the 55A300W at 48.46 in wide, 28.23 in tall and 1.1 in deep without its stand (123 x 72 cm), and 48.46 x 28.66 x 13.7 in on its stand — the stand adds 0.4 in of height and needs a surface 13.7 in deep. On the wall it stands out 1.1 in plus the mount's own profile. Compare it with every other 55-inch body on the above-a-fireplace and TV-cabinet pages.

What that means when you shop

Without a published pattern, the mount choice starts with measuring the TV (below). At 34.39 lb it is a two-person lift onto the mount, and well inside the rating of mainstream fixed and tilting mounts; on a full-motion arm, check the rating at full extension.

Closest in weight among other brands' 55-inch TVs: Samsung The Frame Pro LS03HW (33.1 lb, 200 x 200 mm); Samsung OLED S95H (35.9 lb, 300 x 200 mm); Samsung Micro RGB R85H (32.2 lb, 300 x 200 mm).

TCL's other 55-inch models here — QM6K (300 x 300 mm), QM7K (300 x 300 mm, 29.3 lb), QM7L (300 x 300 mm, 29.3 lb), Q651G (300 x 300 mm, 23.2 lb) — all use a different pattern, so check the exact model before buying a mount.

Among TCL's 46 models here, this is one of the few without a published pattern. TCL's page doesn't state the model year.

How to find the pattern on this TV yourself

  1. Lay the TV face down on a soft, flat surface, or measure it while it stands.
  2. Find the four threaded inserts on the back panel.
  3. Measure centre to centre between the two top holes in millimetres: that is the first number. Then top to bottom on one side: the second.
  4. Compare with standard patterns (100 x 100, 100 x 200, 200 x 100, 200 x 200, 200 x 300, 300 x 200, 400 x 200, 300 x 300…). A reading within a few millimetres of one of them is that pattern.
  5. Note the screw thread from the manual, or test-fit an M6 then M8 screw by hand — never force a screw.

The full walkthrough with photos-free diagrams is in the guide to finding your VESA pattern.

Where to sit

A 55-inch 16:9 screen is 47.9 in wide and 27 in tall. It fills the SMPTE 30° view from 7 ft 5 in and THX's 40° cinema view from 5 ft 6 in. At this size 4K looks sharper than 1080p only from 7 ft 2 in or closer; beyond that, 20/20 eyes cannot tell the two apart. The 55-inch size page has the full table and every model at this size.
