Will an 85-inch TV fit above a fireplace?
Without its stand, a 85-inch TV here measures 74 to 74.72 in wide and 42.2 to 43.5 in tall, according to the makers' spec pages. A clear patch of wall at least 75 x 44 in above the mantel takes any of the 12; the narrowest, the TCL 85QM8L, needs 74 x 42.2 in.

Width and height on the wall
The spread between the narrowest and widest 85-inch body is 0.72 in: the TCL 85QM8L at 74 in against the TCL 85A300W at 74.72 in. A geometric 85-inch 16:9 picture is 74.1 x 41.7 in, and the bodies differ from it by their frames and by how each maker rounds its class size. If a chimney breast or built-in shelving limits the width, measure between the obstructions and compare with the width column, not with the screen size.
Height matters as much above a mantel, because the TV's bottom edge has to clear the shelf and anything that stands on it. The tallest 85-inch body here is 43.5 in and the shortest 42.2 in. Add the gap you want between mantel and TV to that figure to get the wall height you need below the ceiling or crown moulding. If the wall is shorter than about 42.2 in, a 75-inch set (bodies up to 38.5 in tall) is the next size down.
What 85 inches means over a mantel
At 85 inches the TV is often wider than the chimney breast it hangs on, overhanging onto the alcoves at each side by a few inches. That is fine for the picture, but the mount itself must still land entirely on solid masonry or studs, so check where the breast's edges are before marking holes. These bodies weigh 59.52 to 112.9 lb, a three-person lift at height.
How far it stands off the wall
The thinnest body at this size is the TCL 85X11L at 0.8 in deep; the thickest is the Vizio VQD85R-1004 at 2.99 in. On a wall mount the TV sits that far out plus the mount's own profile, which the mount maker prints on its box — a fixed or "low-profile" plate adds the least, a tilting or full-motion arm the most. Over a mantel, a tilting mount is the usual way to angle a high screen back toward the seats.
The TCL 85A300W is not VESA compatible: TCL's page says the A300W is "Not VESA Compatible" and ships with its own flush wall mount, so no hole pattern applies.
Weight on the chimney wall
Without the stand these sets weigh 59.52 to 112.9 lb, with a median of 77.4 lb; the heaviest is the TCL 85X11L. A mount's rating has to cover the TV's weight, and a full-motion arm needs more margin than a fixed plate because the load sits further from the wall. Chimney breasts are often brick or stone; fix the mount with the masonry anchors its maker supplies for that wall, and keep drill holes away from the flue.
Neighbouring sizes
One size down, the 75-inch bodies here are 65.2–65.94 in wide (75-inch above a fireplace). One size up, the 98-inch bodies are 85.3–85.83 in wide and up to 49.8 in tall (98-inch above a fireplace). From a seat 11 ft 6 in away a 85-inch screen fills the SMPTE 30° view; mounting it high doesn't change that distance, but the screen's centre ends up above eye level, so measure from where you sit.
