300 x 500 is a rectangular pattern. The standard's large-display table (Part F) lists square patterns from 200 to 1000 mm, but TV makers commonly use rectangles like this one, and wall mounts are sold by the range of patterns they accept, so it mounts like any other pattern of its size. At this size the screws are usually M6 or M8 — the TV's manual is the authority. It is the number 15 of 16 patterns among the TVs listed here.

A portrait pattern: holes further apart up and down
VESA figures are written width first, so 300 x 500 puts the holes 500 mm apart vertically and only 300 mm apart across.
