What VESA pattern does your TV use — and what size fits your room?
Type your TV's model number to get the mount pattern and weight its maker publishes, check them against a wall mount, or start from your sofa: enter the seating distance and get the screen size the viewing standards recommend.
1. Find your TV
187 current LG, Samsung, Sony and TCL models, read from each maker's product page on 2026-10-20. Not listed? The guide to finding your pattern takes two minutes with a tape measure.
2. TV size for your seating distance

How the answers are worked out
Mount patterns are the "VESA" figures in each manufacturer's specifications — the distance in millimetres between the four threaded holes on the back of the TV, width first. They were read from the maker's own US product page for every model listed and each model page links to its source. Where a maker lists no pattern (wallpaper, transparent and supplied-mount designs, and a few Sony OLEDs listed only as "VESA compatible"), the page says so instead of guessing.
Mount fit is arithmetic on what the mount's box prints: both the width and the height of your TV's pattern must sit between the mount's smallest and largest pattern, and the TV's weight must be at or under the mount's rating. A mount listed as "200 x 100 to 600 x 400" fits a 400 x 300 TV but not a 600 x 500 one.
Viewing distance is geometry. A 16:9 screen is 0.8716 times its diagonal wide; the distance at which it fills an angle is that width divided by twice the tangent of half the angle. The two angles used are the widely quoted SMPTE 30° for mixed viewing and THX's 40° for film. The formula reproduces the reference numbers in the source exactly — 30° works out to 1.6264 times the diagonal — and the acuity limit (one arcminute per pixel, 20/20 vision) reproduces the cited 31.2° for 1080p and 58.37° for 4K. The full method and sources are on the methodology page.
